Here we're in the section of the trail called the scales, so named because it's where the native packers hired by the gold seekers 105 years ago would throw down their loads and "strike" for more money. The loads carried by the packers would be often thinned out by the gold seeker, reweighed (and thus the name of the location the scales), prices renogiated, before continuing on. What I'm pointing to is known as the Golden Staircase. If you look real close, you can actually see people hiking up the Golden Staircase in the shot above. We're pretty sure the guided party (the one with the Sherpas), and Kerstin and Detlef are in the picture.
